Things I am doing lately...

Well I thought I would post a list of things I have been doing to get ready to go. I have emailed a few families who have already traveled to get their little ones and they gave me all the tips they had which REALLY helped! Okay, here's what we've been up to:

* Securing a Bassinet sat on our flight for Felicity
* Filling our prescriptibon for Malaria pills & scabies cream
* Getting my last Hep B shot
* Getting a prescription for Felicity for scabies cream & a general antibiotic
* Buying a few bottles, a formula holder and disposable liners (which everyone is saying is very helpful since your on the go a lot and don't have to wash)
* We are taking tylenol for us and Felicity along with a whole handy meds bag full of everything like cold medicine, lice shampoo, anti-fungal cream, benadryl, etc. Another family told me they don't have much in the way of over the counter medicines there and they ended up using everything they brought.
*Securing travel insurance for us all (Gladney has some options for this in the travel packet, it's not much money at all)
*Trying to contact our airline to see if we can waive our humanitarian aid fees for the luggage we will take full of stuff for the children.
*Our church is donating pens, paper, crayons and gently used clothing & shoes that we will pack. * Everyone also said to bring a TON of wipes and diapers because all the babies seem to be having mysterious "blow out" diapers :o) and are using wipes for everything.
*Buying powdered pedialyte to bring for Felicity
* Preparing for our baby shower in a couple weeks
* Trying to get at least one bag packed while my two boys run around - That's a start right?

Okay, that's all I can think of for now. Anyone else doing anything different? Am I forgetting anything??? People are also saying you can really get a lot of things if needed that are forgotten so that's good!

Those are all wonderful, and really essential tasks, and great ways to stay busy while you wait! It's actually a blessing that there's so much to do before traveling. Provides some sanity for mama!
When you've checked everything off your list, clean out closets, organize the garage, and give yourself a really thorough pedicure... anything to fill the time. :)
Hang in there!

What a great list!
Thanks so much!
Please add to it when you think of new things and when you get time...maybe a post trip report on what you wish you had also taken.
I am VERY interested in the humanitarian relief info from the airlines as I have about 20 boxes of medical supplies that I could take with me if I can figure out how to get them there!
Blessings,
Kristy

sounds like the perfect to-do list! You will be well prepared. Just take a little time to rest -- and maybe squeeze in a massage =).

Miranda,
I love that you posted these "things to do" so we can all save them for when we are about to travel! I am excited for your family that you will hold Felicity very soon! I agree with Carey...squeeze in a massage if you can!

What a great list. Look forward to reading about your trip. We took several travel size bottles of Purell that we could stick in our pocket for on the go hand sanitizing. Also, Hyland's teething tablets. They are all natural. You just stick it under your child's tongue and it dissolves instantly. Our son was teething (and fussy about it) when we picked him up and those were great to have on hand! Also, Little Noses saline drops and a bulb syringe. Our son was so stuffy and we could not find bulb syringes in Addis to relieve his discomfort. Safe travels!

Where did you find powdered pedialyte? I have been searching for that for our trip :) That would be way lighter than any liquid! Thanks :)

Thanks for all the good comments! I actually have NOT found the powdered pediatlyte! It's so irritating because I have checked 4 or 5 stores! But, I just ordered something called "performance" which is a natural flavored electrolyte thing as well, it's put out by Shaklee: www.shaklee.com We LOVE Shaklee!! This is powdered and can be used for adults and kids. We also ordered quite a bit of vitamins to ward off all the germs.
